Become a Caregiver at Boost at Home

There are three REQUIREMENTS by the state that a caregiver must complete upon hiring:

-National/expanded criminal history check (some convictions are permissible, see Resources page)

-In-person CPR Certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross

-Tuberculosis Screening (either a two-step skin test or blood test)

After you will need to complete our onboarding packet and orientation (online).

If the caregiver is a spouse or parent of a minor child, they can only be paid through Structured Family Caregiving — and they must live together.

For everyone else, all three programs are generally available, with SFC requiring co-residence and Attendant Care and Home and Community Assistance not requiring it.

Yes. Caregivers are not limited to relatives. You can provide services to a friend, neighbor, in-laws, stepson, stepdaughter and stepparents too.

Caregivers must be at least 18 years old, legally authorized to work in the United States, able to perform assigned duties safely, and meet all state and agency requirements.

Previous caregiving experience is helpful but not always required. Compassion, reliability, professionalism, and a willingness to learn are equally important qualities.

Yes. Boost at Home offers flexible scheduling opportunities based on client needs, caregiver availability, and service authorizations.

CPR certification can be obtained through organizations such as:

• American Red Cross

• American Heart Association

• Local hospitals, community centers, and training providers

Most CPR certifications are valid for two years from the date of completion. After two years renewal is required.

Register for an abbreviated "Review" or "Renewal" class with one of the state-accepted organizations.

Caregivers are required to get either a standard skin test (Mantoux/TST) or the blood test alternative (IGRA/QuantiFERON).

The skin test requires two visits — one to place the test, and one 48–72 hours later to have it read and documented.

The blood test alternative requires only one visit and may be preferable for caregivers who need faster turnaround.

The result must be documented in writing.

Cost is typically $20–$50 at urgent care; free or low-cost at county health departments

TB testing may be available through:

• Primary care providers

• Urgent care centers

• CVS MinuteClinic

• Walgreens Health Clinics

• Local health departments

A TB test is required before hire and then annually thereafter.

CPR/First Aid- typically under $100

TB Skin Test- $50-$75 at CVS MinuteClinic (county health departments are potentially free or lower cost)

TB Blood Test- typically $100-$200
